Biography
Sarah Immel is a PhD student in the Centre for Doctoral Training in Designing Responsible Natural Language Processing at the University of Edinburgh. Her academic work is driven by a conviction that the arts and humanities have at least as much to offer for motivating, guiding, and advancing emerging technologies as those same technologies claim they have to offer the arts and humanities. Her undergraduate studies in creative writing, computer science, and design at Whitworth University and MSc in Narrative Futures: Art, Data, Society at the Edinburgh Futures Institute give her a truly interdisciplinary perspective on the problems artificial intelligence and datafication cause in and across societies, and the solutions which these and other fields might produce in combination.
