Dr Simon Rowberry

Dr Simon Rowberry in a Lecturer in Publishing and the Director of the Centre for Publishing at UCL. His research interests lie at the intersection of the rise of digital publishing and the history of computing. His first book, Four Shades of Gray (MIT Press: 2022) focused on the rise of the Amazon Kindle platform and its impact on trade publishing. His short monograph for Cambridge Elements (Publishing and Book Cultures) on Project Gutenberg will be published later in 2023. He is currently working on a longer history of reading on-screens before the mainstream adoption of the Web.
