Biography

Michael Armstrong works at the interaction between people, stories, media, and technology, spanning topics from narrative structures, access services to video quality and human perception. Their latest work is on data-driven, automated production of personalised and interactive media; fitting content items, described by metadata, to media templates and audience requirements. The concepts originate from the challenges of installing and running the BBC’s first, computer-based play-out system at Radio Bristol in the 1990s and combines the issues of storytelling and narrative structures with natural forms of agency, the problems of personalisation and the role of the user in the narrative.
